I really don't like to be "political" but this was something I witnessed and something I have to deal with daily at my job. The footage is going to be part of another project but while I was working on it, I felt it should be its own video for a couple of reasons:
1. I did not want it to be lost in the mix with all of the other footage that is included in that other project.
2. With it being an election year for both Alderman James Cappleman and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and they are trying to present themselves in the best possible light including in how they treat homeless folks, I felt the truth should be seen and heard.
So with that said, here is one political post...it will be back to my usual very soon.
Uptown Chicago Homeless Evicted by Alderman James Cappleman and Mayor Rahm Emanuel
On September 18th, 2017 a homeless population who had been evicted the previous night from under nearby viaducts were once again being evicted and having their belongings taken by Alderman James Cappleman, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and the city of Chicago. On September 25th, 2017 there was a Protest Vigil in front of Alderman James Cappleman's Uptown 46th Ward office to address his treatment and criminalization of the homeless population. While advertising this night as having an open house at his office for folks to come and address any issues or concerns, Alderman James Cappleman, instead of addressing the issue at hand, chose to lock his door, allowing only friends and supporters into his office during the protest. It is documented that Alderman James Cappleman stated the people lost their chance to speak with him because they were "shouting" at him.
